Mobile Wireless Data Acquisition System

Mobile DASHardware

Mobile Wireless Data Acquisition System (MWDAS) consists of miniature programmable rechargeable battery powered MWDAS module and Windows CE® based Pocket PC with dedicated multipurpose acquisition and measurement software. Wireless system uses Bluetooth® technology, allowing receiving data and controlling several modules in the distance up to 50 m (open field) using Pocket PC.

MWDAS module depending of modification can acquire analog signals in up to 4 channels with amplitude up to 50V. Additional channels may be added through extension port. Module is programmable using modified Basic language. Data acquisition and measurement software for Pocket PC allows monitoring in real time up to 4 processes simultaneously. Acquired data can be saved in the memory or on removable media in several formats for later analysis. Program has calibration capability for each channel, remote control of acquisition parameters and health monitor for MWDAS. The primary technology use is in remote monitoring and control devices, telemetry systems, mobile medical equipment - like cardiographs, analysators of blood pressure etc. This technology can be easy adapted for other spheres: transport, building, assembling, electronics industry etc.

Innovative Aspects:

The first complete wireless mobile data acquisition system for Pocket PC. Data acquisition module is user programmable in Basic language. Bluetooth technology allows acquiring data from several modules using single Pocket PC.

Main Advantages:

System may be used to monitor and control processes, when physical cabling between data acquisition site and monitoring device is hard to provide or impossible e.g. hazardous area, from moving objects, high objects, etc; or real mobility is necessary.

Process Monitor Pocket PC SoftwareProcess Monitor Software

MWDAS software runs on a Pocket PC using Windows CE operating system. Process Monitor program is used for monitoring, recording, reviewing, calibrating and analyzing signals received from Mobile DAS.

In the monitoring mode program can display up to 4 curves of measurements in real time. Because of the limited screen size of the Pocket PC only 2 numeric values of the 4 channels can be displayed at a time. Values of the measurements can be calibrated for all channels individually.

In the recording mode signals from all channels are saved into a file for later use. File length is only limited by the available memory on the Pocket PC. User has option to set timer to make fixed length records. Another feature during record mode is pre–trigger which saves to file some of the graph data before the record button was actually pressed.

Process Monitor software can save files in a format that can be opened later for reviewing. It can also export data to a text file so other programs can import it for further analysis.

Process Monitor software can also can be used to send commands to Mobile DAS. This allows to change sample rate, polarity, amplitude and other settings on the Mobile DAS side.
